When I was a kid I loved watching cartoons. These simple characters on a screen would keep me entertained for hours at a time and of course I could not help but laugh, laugh, and laugh some more every time I saw Tom hit something while he was chasing Jerry. Now that I am older you would like to think that I was able to leave these childish things behind. While I still enjoy the classics 90's cartoon network Tom and Jerry I have found a new love and this love comes in the form of anime.
You may find yourself asking the question what is the difference between cartoons and anime. There is a major difference believe it or not! A cartoon is a form of tow- dimensional illustrated visual art. If you look at cartoons from the 60's and now you will see that there has been some rather large changes but they all have some common ground and that is that most cartoons are either non-realistic or semi-realistic.
Anime was born in the world of Japan and dates as far back as 1917. It takes the world of cartoons to a whole new level for me. Japanese animation is created with a semi-realist look and feel to it. It uses bright vibrate colors and in dept story lines to lore in its viewers. The creators of anime's often forces on making there characters look either as real as possible or having a complex story line that just sucks you in.
Now before I go in to the details of why I like one style over the other I want to make it clear that I enjoy cartoons of all kind to this very day. I could never get tired of watching Scooby and Shaggy eating a snack in the kitchen and then run into the ghost that they where trying to avoid at the same time I will never get tired of watching Goku teaming up with his arch enemy Piccolo in order to defeat Raditz.
The reason that I tend to lean more toward enjoying anime as a adult is because of something that I kind of picked up when I frist started to gain an interest in then anime field. I can remember I was about twelve years old and I was watching Dragon Ball Z just like I did everyday after I got home from school. It was the episode where Goku was fighting Vegeta, while Goku was more like laying on the ground because of a beating he had taken but thats not the point. What was about to happen is what hooked me on anime up to this point. Goku had created a small sprite bomb and handed it to Krillin and then told him to throw it at Vegeta when the signal was given. While if you are an anime fan at all then you know what happen shortly afterwards. Krillin tossed the sprite bomb at Vegeta but sadly he missed and it started to head for Gohan who is Goku's only son at this time. Gohan is staring at this bright glowing ball of energy heading his way and the look on his face clearly reads. This thing is going to kill me and I don't even get a chance to go to a public school but that is when you hear Goku's speaking to Gohan. Goku tells his son that if there is no doubt in your heart then you will be able to send the sprite bomb away and it will not harm you. As the bomb approached Gohan closer he lifted his hands and the sprite bomb made contact with him and then flow off in the direction of Vegeta.
It was during that moment that I realized that no matter how much crap that I go through in my life I will always be able to find a positive influence anywhere I go. I realized something else much later in my life and it was that the people that I look up do not always have to be real people. I mean why cant I look up so some of these anime characters? They have trates and personality about them that we can only dream about finding in real people in today's age.Even through these anime characters are not real and I am fully aware that everything about them is a mere story that someone wrote down with a pencil or they typed it up on there computer these so called non existing people have taught me a lot in my life.
-Goku taught me to never give up
-Yu-Gi taught me to have faith in what ever I do
-Ichigo taught me to always fight for you loved ones
-Yuno taught me to never let go of those you love
As weird as it may sound. I have learned how to become a better person form watching anime. I know we are supposted to learn how to become better people from watching those around up but what do you do when those around you are now who they want you to believe they are?
