These days, I carry a hormonal IUD that actually prevents me from having my period, and I can't think of any period in my life where I've felt more liberated.

Despite one common nickname, tampons do not "plug" up the vagina and prevent flow. They instead absorb the menses that has already left the uterus and cervix. The fluid is going to vacate the body either way; a tampon just captures it before it leaves the body entirely, letting the woman stay clean outside, rather than having to deal with a sticky mess.
As has been noted, tampons-vs-pads is a personal preference. If used properly, then either is a safe way to collect and remove the menses.

No one around me in school really used Tampons.
99% of us used Pads so i guess i just got used to it.
I spoke to my mom about this and she encouraged me to try a Tampon.

Some women I know really hate tampons whereas others can't stand anything else.
Some women say that tampons are annoying a it always feels likenthere's somethin inside them but other girls just love that feeling or just don't notice it.
Tampon using girls also say that it's cleaner because the blood doesn't go out of their vaginas but modern pads are absorbing so fast that you won't notice any blood (as some girls told me).

I remember when I first used tampons when I was 17, I didn't really like it because of the feeling. But over time, I got used to it and prefer it much more over the pad. And to me, a tampon is easier to change too.
