When I am upset I have been known to shed a tear during sex, afterwards I feel like I have certainly gotten in all out and feel better. Then I get cuddles as well

I agree! Science is science and Q is right. Sex as antidepressant works for me but sometimes when I'm depressed and don't want sex, some cuddling will change my mind. If sex doesn't get you out of depression, try tp have some cuddling and spooning before and after the sex. That would help you feel much better!

That's typical example of catch 22 - sex would help you but you don't want to be even touched!
Human beans are (mostly) social types, so not heaving any social contacts (friends or boyfriends/girlfriends) will destroy your self-esteem, and lack of self-esteem would definitely bring you into depression. So, the best way to loose self-esteem is to dump all your friends and lover(s) or to not get any. That includes not allowing your present BF/GF to hold your hand, to hug you, to kiss you when you're down. Besides it's selfish, it's not going to help you. You need human touch to get out of depression... rejecting it is like self-destruction or self-punishment. Almost like you WANT to get into depression to teach yourself a lesson or to punish yourself.
So, please, do yourself a favour - try not to discard friends because it will, little by little, kill you...

Depression is not just a mental issue, as it can be caused by a chemical imbalance. Bad eating habits can cause depression as well, if your body is lacking some vitamins or minerals it can also cause a depression.
