I need some help.
I have never been a very good hostess. I don't do well with large groups of people. Any parties I hosted involved large bottles of liquor and my only duty was to make sure nobody killed anyone else.
Well, I haven't celebrated my birthday in many years - not even my 21st!!! My 25th is coming up very soon (February 3rd) and my friends talked me into entertaining. They are helping me plan, but we need some ideas for food! (any other advice is appreciated).
It is a Friday night. My 'friend' is coming from the city as the main entertainment, he will be playing/singing acoustic (and unplugged) for us while we sip on wine. The main goal is for it to be a quiet, relaxing affair. Nothing relaxes me more than music, and I am absolutely beside myself with excitement at the prospect of having him play in such an intimate setting. I want it to be small, my very best friends and some family, we're looking at 10 people tentatively (could go up to around 15 by the time it comes around). Nothing huge. But I still want it to be a smashing time. (I want HIM to enjoy himself too, he's going to be coming to us instead of going out and doing what he does every other Friday night playing for triple the amount of people).
The main points of the party are the music and the wine. But we need food. I know wine and cheese go together, and thought about doing a few trays of snacks (veggies, crackers, cheese, bruschetta) and calling it a day. But, I don't want anyone to starve. A lot of people will be coming from work and will probably not have time to have dinner.
Any ideas for a nice, decent meal that goes well with wine and isn't too overly formal? Or maybe just more substantial appetizers or Hors d'oeuvre? I have done a ton of searching on google and have only come up with a few ideas. I will be working until 3pm that day, and the party will be starting at 7 or 8. I only have a few hours to prepare. I really do not want to resort to having a pizza party...
Also, what is your wine of choice? What wine must you have at a party?
We are thinking of having everyone bring a bottle of their choice, so I'm not stuck buying a ton of wine. This way, we'd have a variety for a true wine tasting. I will still provide a few nice bottles, of course.
Deserts? Something simple we can pick at as the night goes on?
Would you come to my party? What could I do to make sure you have a good time? Let's hear what genius ideas you all have
Thanks in advance! I am new to this entertaining stuff and only have one month - with school starting next week, I have to make sure to have it all planned out now so it all runs smoothly when the day comes.
