Never went for unprotected anal myself, but I read on another forum that's really BIG on anal that the occurrence of UTI seems very rare. Meanwhile I have an uncle who said it's not a good idea and I can bet a whole paycheck he was talking from personal experience.

However, prior to that we had anal sex (her receiving) probably once every few months. Can't think of a time that we ever used a condom. I never had any issues and neither did she.
There is a TON of bacteria and, for lack of a better word, germs in the anus, and there is a lot of potential for problems if there are pre-existing conditions such a blood-born pathogens, anal-related injuries, etc. But if you are both comfortable with the assurance that you are both "clean" (free of disease)....it'd just be a matter of making sure whoever's ass is getting attention is clean.
No matter what acts you're doing, the one to NOT screw around with is going from her ass to her pussy. That's pretty much a guarantee that she's going to have an issue.

A few things. First of all, contrary to what many people might think, the human rectum isn't the repository for feces. That's the colon's job. Most hours of the day, the rectum is virtually empty. It's only when the colon senses the need to expel waste that it begins pushing, filling the rectum, at which point you go have a sit and a BM. Yes, traces can remain in the rectum after voiding, but a healthy, high-fiber, low-red-meat diet helps immensely. So, at the least, before having anal sex, the receiving partner should have had a good void in the past several hours.
Second, the penetrating partner can help himself by fucking his lover all the way to orgasm. If you're both clean and healthy, you should both welcome and enjoy the opportunity to cum in his or her ass; it's a delightfully intimate and sensually rewarding experience. If you don't cum in your partner's ass, continue to orgasm wherever you like. Ejaculation will begin the process of cleaning the male urethra of anything foreign that might have entered.
And lastly, after enjoying anal sex, go have a good, healthy, strong piss in the next 15-20 minutes. This will finish the process of cleaning the urethra, and you shouldn't have any issues at all.
