Ever met or bumped into a celebrity?
Where did it happen, where they cool or not so cool?

Every year I run into NBA players, because Las Vegas is home to the NBA Summer League. All-Srat Weekend was here a few years back too
I;ve had a chance to play with jazz legend Robebrt Conti. That's about it. My grandfather was quite a celebrity, as he was the pioneer of Pakistani International Airlines.

Paul Newman in the pits at Road America in 1982. His eyes really were that blue. Very easy to talk to - just a normal guy and he was a very good driver.
Interviewed Henry Kissinger and Gerald Ford for my college radio station back in 1980. Both were very sharp and engaging people, even if you didn't agree with their politics.
Mika Hakkinen - Shared a flight with him and his wife from Rochester MN to Chicago O'Hare in 1999 just after he won the Spanish Grand Prix. Not the most talkative guy, but his wife was charming.
Gallagher - he was doing a schtick for us at Comdex one year and I had to make sure he went on at the right times. He got a little frustrated and quit after 3 days.
Fleetwood Mac, Doobie Brothers, Marshall Tucker Band, Heart - did security and on-stage announcing for Mississippi River Festival summer of '79. Post concert parties were everything they say they were. If only I could remember more...

Phil Collins - Some friends and I were on our way to see Marillion at Wembley Arena in 1987 when we bumped into him coming out of a building on the way to the venue. He came across as being very friendly and genuine.
Fish - I went to see him at Portree Village Hall on his first solo tour after leaving Marillion and ended up staying in the same pub/hotel as he was. bumped into him in the bar prior to the gig.
The only others I've met have been at things like Collectormania and the London Film and Comic Con (sad geek, I know) or at arranged signings and they include:
Danny John Jules
John Rhys Davies.
In the case of all the above, I can honestly say that they were very friendly and a pleasure to meet - as were Simon Bates (I helped do the lighting rig at a PA he did), Gordon Gilltrap (who came into the shop where I used to work) and Dave Brock who was behind the T-shirt stall at a Hawkwind gig).
in fact, the only exception I can think of was Jack Bruce (he also came into the shop where I used to work) and was the most obnoxious, arrogant bastard its been my misfortune to encounter.

I was about thirteen and used to watch the 49ers practice every summer at a college near my grandparent's home. Through meeting the defensive coach at at a members camp, he got me into see the team. After practice, some of them were in the swimming pool sipping on beers in gatorade cups.. I thought it was the coolest thing ever.. Joe was short for a quarterback I thought, but real friendly as were a lot of the other team members.
I bumped into Jeffrey Jones in LA once while trying to get directions to a street my mother-in-law lived on. While he is not a big celeb, I knew who he was.
Newer stuff, I got to meet Taboo, from the Black-eyed peas at a VIP concert before the show. He autographed my wife's arm too LOL.

I've met alot of Australian singers - Human Nature, Savage Garden, Merrill Bainbridge, Rick Price, Tommy Emmanuel, Emmanuell Carella - all at CD signings/concerts
I met Chris Cheney, lead singer of The Living End when we were both in hospital He'd been in a massive car accident that nearly killed him and I was in having my appendix removed and a couple of other little things. I was sitting in the sun room playing on the playstation that was in there when this guy came in on crutches and sat down next to me and asked if he minded if he joined me in a game. I looked over and was totally star struck, I'd been at the concert the night before Chris' car accident, so i was over the moon
I've met alot of Olympians - Andrew Gaze, Kieran Perkins, Sam Riley, Susie O'Neil, Geoff Hugill (most of the swim team from the 2000 Olympics actually) and tennis players, Lleyton Hewitt,Wayne Arthurs, Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodford aka The Woodies, but the nicest one was Mark Phillippousis. I was at the front row at a parade for our successful Davis Cup team, which is where I met all the previously mentioned players. Anyway, mark was the big sex symbol in the tennis world and all the older girls behind me were screaming and trying to push forward to get closer to him, trapping me up against the barrier and really hurting me. I was only 12 at the time and I was really panicking coz I was getting crushed. Two big burly security guards literally bent over the railing and pulled me out, I had a slight cut to my head so I was taken away for treatment, missing the presentation. Just after it finished, while I was getting bandaged up after getting a couple of stitches, the whole team walks in, lead by Mark! And he gave me a hug I was on cloud 9 for days after
The highlight for me though is April 26th 2009. I stood in pouring rain, buffeting winds and 8c/46f temps but it was so worth it! I live in a big city, but we are often ignored for major events. But through months of hard work and campaigning on my part, and that of a local business owner, we had managed to get two of the stars of Twilight to come to a store called Gifts for the Geek for a photo and signing day. So I went and lined up for hours for my chance to see Edi Gathegi and Kellan Lutz and it was totally worth it. I finally got to the head of the line. I got Edi's autograph first, but while I was chatting to him Kellan looked over and said "Totally Obsessed with Twilight" which is my username for the forum I did all my petitioning on to get them to come here, I also have a pic of myself in a tshirt that says "forget princess, i wanna be a vampire" in my sig on that site. I totally freaked out, staring at him looking like basically. He got up and came round the table and HUGGED ME! I was in total heaven thinking 'ok i've been hugged by a Cullen, I can die now' Apparently Kellan joined the site coz it's the major australian fan base under a pseudonym, to see what us mad aussies are like when it comes to Twilight, and he read most of my posts and blogs. Best day EVER

You met Les Paul? I never knew that.

Everytime I see grown adults rush stars (there all over Vegas) I crinbge. I can understand little kids, because they look up to those people, atheletes and musicians ect, but there's a reason why pro sports teams and certain actors won't let anyone over 15 attend autograph sessions, and I agree with them. I remember a few years back when Jennifer Garner was at the Orleans theatre here for her "Elektra" premier. SO many people found out she was there and the theatre had to be closed,. I was upset b/c I couldn't see the film I wanted to see, all because people wanted to rush some actress.

In Boston about 1959 I think. Did I tell you I bought a 1957 Les Paul custom on Jan 4 of 58. Would be worth a lot now. Lost it in a pawn shop about 1964. The life of a drunk!

Ever met or bumped into a celebrity?
Where did it happen, where they cool or not so cool?
I was at the airport in San Diego about 2 months ago and I SWEAR Anne Hathaway was on line at security, a few people ahead of me. I saw her but didn't really recognize her at first; but I smiled at her and she smiled back at me and we looked each other right in the eyes and maybe "flirted" a little bit. THEN I realized who it was and I was like "Oh - WOW!" I told my Dad really quietly who it was - unfortunately I think maybe she heard me and that spoiled the moment a little bit for her, and I felt badly about that. Anyway that was the whole nine yards, I didn't bug her or anything.
Other than that - zip, nada. At least things that are barely worth mentioning - I went to a restuarant in NYC for Thanksgiving with my family - my Mom saw Kelsey Grammar there - I didn't, though, the "logistics" just didn't work out for that. He certainly did have "the whole entourage" with him though - three or four really beautiful bl- bl- uhmm, BLONDES with the whole nine yards - looked like they had probably spent hours in a beauty parlor on Rodeo Drive before "jetting over to New York with Kels-Kels" - you get the idea. We also, on the same day (to kill time) had gone to check out the Broadway Theatre while Letterman was shooting - YOU know, where the crowd hangs out, on the street? And we saw Slash walk out the exit - he went directly over to his limo and it left, and that was it.
Also saw President Carter talk when I was a kid - that was from SERIOUSLY far away - and ex-President Ford when I was in college.
Oh - and - again barely worth mentioning - but I saw Pat Benatar perform in college at the SUNY Buffalo alumni arena for free
- "Part of Your Student Fee" lol! - And I got a little bit of eye-contact from her. Uhm, that's really about it - Other concerts - Stevie Nicks, Steve Perry etc., but always from the "nosebleed section" far away. And once when I was a little kid I saw a REALLY rich, fairly old guy get out of a limo - I thought it was some sort of famous perfume guy but wasn't sure.
OH - and - cute story - About a year ago I was in NYC right next to Central Park and some lady was walking a dog that looked just like Paris Hilton's and I said to my Dad, "That looks just like Paris HILTON'S dog" and she gives me this look like, "YEAH - - - LOOKS like! . . . . " LOL.
P.S. - OH, and Jennifer Aniston lives down the street from me. You just drive over to Sunrise Highway, go about 40 miles west, get on 78 and continue west for about 3,000 miles, get on Santa Monica Boulevard and then hang a right and another left!
