What would you think?

Let's say there is someone you meet that works at a department store as a check-out clerk. You're both obviously attracted to each other and you have a very nice, pleasant flirtatious conversation for a few minutes and that is that. Later on, you start wondering "what if" and your curosity gets the best of you so you call the store and ask to speak with this person. What do you have to lose, right? You talk for a minute or so, but they are busy working so they ask you if you can call back at a specific time when they take their break. Sounds ok so far, right? You call back, but they're still busy because they store is about to close so you give them your phone number at their request. Well, they never call you so you decide to call them a week later to see what the deal is. This time around, they sound disinterested and sullen and act like they want nothing to do with you. What would you think? I've been racking my brain for the last couple of days and am wondering what happened from one day to the next.
Just want to know what everyone else's opinions are on this matter.

But, that's just me.

I've had the same happen a couple of times, only I went back in person. One of the times I asked when they get off for break, and they said they weren't interested. Easy enough.
The other time I went into their line at the grocery store, and asked if she was seeing anyone. She blushed, and I knew I had it. She said no, so I slipped her my number, hoping not to get her in trouble. She called me that night, and we talked for a few weeks before I decided I wasn't interested. We really had nothing in common, and I didn't see her being a booty call either.
If you were really attracted to her, I would just stop by one day, and see if she wants to go out. The worst that can happen is she says no.
