As for the types of sex toys, there are a huge variety. What are you looking for? Masturbators? Couples toys? Anal toys?
The best one is the Fleshlight. I have one, it is hugely popular:
There are vibrating masturbators (personally I don't care for them):
I've never tried a penis pump, but I undertand that some guys like them (no they don't work for enlarging your penis permanently):
There are toys you can use together like cock rings, or vibrating cock rings:
There are prostate toys, one I have been thinking about getting is the Aneros prostate massager:
Butt plugs, some even vibrate:

In response to the criticism I would ask her what the problem is, if you don't try something how will you know what it feels like. Our first toy was bought as a joke between me and my wife but turned her on so much she introduced more toys to our sex life, we don't use them all the time but they are there to intensify things if we want, toys will never replace the real thing and just because you have one doesn't mean there is a problem in the bedroom.
