It's not just a collection of crazy positions, it's an entire anthropological text that's pretty much a comprehensive study of human sexual behaviour from an ancient Indian philosophical perspective.
Personally, I rarely recommend it for someones first foray into sexual literature, I think it's a bit weighty for a lot of people who are just looking for a new sexual perspectives. The Joy of Sex is a great reader-friendly starting point, and a fantastic intro to sexual literature.
In terms of the ancient texts, I actually prefer the Chinese texts to the Indian texts, but that's just a personal taste thing.
Read, read, read, there are literally thousands of years of in depth sexual literature out there with more sexual wisdom than you could ever fathom. It's amazing how there's no end to the amount of wisdom, technique, etc that you can learn.
The knowledge is out there, there's no point in ignoring it.
