The next day (yesterday) we took the kids to a birthday party at the laser tag place, which happened to be in the same plaza as Pet Express, so I stopped in to say hello to the friendly employees and let then know how well Isabella was adjusting. I asked to see her sister, and they let me. I held her and told her everything would be ok, that she wold get a home soon and not to be sad. When the storekeeper went to take her and put her back in her cage, I became increasingly concerned. What if no one took her home? I spent a lot of time talking with Todd, one of the employees, and I told him I wanted that last guinea pig, but couldn't take her until Friday when my husband got paid. He watched me cooing and loving on the piggy, and he told me he would hold her for me. I promised him I would be back.
Today I went to visit the last piggy, I didn't want her to be lonely, rabbits or not. I wanted her to know me and recognize me. I planned on visiting her every day until I could bring her home. Todd brought her out to me, and I sat on the floor with her, talking and playing and cuddling. I was about to leave when my cell phone rang, and I dug through my bag looking for it. I moved some stuff around in my bag and found a ten dollar bill!!! I could buy the last piggie!! I couldn't believe my luck and I told Todd the news. He smiled and said "Everything happens for a reason." I brought her home in a box and put her in the pen with Lizzie and Bella. The two sister squeaked and chattered in delight upon being reunited. They remembered each other! My heart swelled with joy. I can't wait to tell Todd, Stephanie and the rest of the Pet Express crew.
As I type this I listen to the happy sounds of guinea pig chatter and know I made the right decision. I had never considered a guinea pig as a pet before, and now I can't imagine not having them. They are the sweetest, most lovable animals, and they are so easy to care for. Their potty doesn't stink like hamster and gerbil potty, and they can be taught to do tricks! I love them so much. I think one day, when I own my own house, I might start a guinea pig rescue. They are truly amazing animals.
