It's time for human kind to say goodbye... Can we survive a massacre of this scale?
Posted Mon Dec 12, 2011 11:29 AM
Goodbye to so many species that won't survive.
Goodbye to most coral species in beautiful blue sees.
People of Tuvalu, Nauru, Kiribati and so many other countries in the Pacific: say goodbye to the land of your ancestors.
We're too lazy to do something real for the planet, to try and stop the mess. We don't wanna change our habits, we don't wanna make sacrifices. Now, if we change our minds, it'll be too late. We don't wanna change the way we live... and it means we'll really have to change the way we live. We'll have no choice.
Extinction events do happen naturally. Over 80% of species disappeared in the Permian-Triassic extinction event. We threatened to do it with the power of the nucleus. No, too bombastic. We'll do it with subtle chemicals. It has only taken us 200000 years to work out the details of it. It won't be the end of the planet. But it'll be the end of the planet the way we know it. Probably, it won't be the end of us. The rich will survive. The poorest will perish. It is a sort of 'genocide', though it isn't about one people in particular. It is against the poor. No need to pull triggers. We won't shoot them. We'll pollute them. It is more... civilized...
Because we messed it up and we decided we will continue to mess it up. Sure, most of us, or at least some of us, do something. But we don't do enough. I don't do enough.
This is a world your great grandchildren won't see. They'll surely see something. But it won't look the same. It won't feel the same.

If the poor are going to be dead via pollution and non-environmentalism, who are the rich going to exploit in the future in order to generate more wealth for themselves? And...if all the poor are gone, wont the least rich of the survivors be the new poor?
Excuse me while I go get my post-apocolypse currency in order....

Yeah...I dunno about that. Have you glanced at the environmental track record of nations like the USSR, China, North Korea, etc? I'm not even talking about shit like Chernobyl, which was an absolute mind-bender. Non-capitalist nations have far more lax environmental standards than "capitalist" nations do...or semi-capitalist, I should say.
And if you're a fan of the green/re-newable energy industry, well, those companies developing zero-emissions cars, the "bloom box" that NASA likes to much, etc,....are capitalist, for-profit enterprises...some mega-corps like Nissan, GM, etc...others are venture capitalists putting nine-figure sums of their own money on the line so that these products can be developed...
Here's why idiots don't understand the beauty of capitalism and how it can do more to save the environment than any non-capitalist concept :
And if you're attention span is too short or you're too stupid to really read, here's video from youtube that will show you :
At 2 min, 55 seconds....listen to the guy who invested $100 million to pay to develop this...listen to what he says....
This, and many other developing technologies, are being developed and tested at no cost to the government that's too budy printing and then throwing away money.
C'mon, people....for fuck's sake....think!

that's my thoughts, too...but alien2 said they would survive....

That is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen said on this forum. Trade in a car for a bike? Why don't you trade in your cell phone (you know, the one you referenced earlier?) for two cans and a string, since cell phones need satellites that rockets burn rocket fuel to put into orbit, not to mention that cell phones may cause cancer? Yeah, didn't think so.
All ac units are ripped from houses and offices
Yeah, that'll save the day. Some seem to have a penchant for making people with higher standards of living suffer.
The usa stops buying any oil from anywhere it can.
Billions of people, spread over 6 continents, would starve to death if that happened. I'll explain if you want, because I can, but it will show just how bizarre and absurd this above statement really is. I'll give you a hint....look at everything by-products of corn are used to produce....and look who the #1 producer of corn is, by a fucking long shot. And then look up how corn is harvested here in the U.S. Then ask yourself of 90%+ of that corn production stopped, what would happen to the prices of aaaallll those products (food included!)that have corn in them....and what that would do to poor people.
Show the world how green is better, convince us by making the sacrifices .......will they..will you ?
How about you make the sacrifices and show us that green is better? If it's so butt-fuckin'-tastic, you do it. Why should we ruin our standards of living to convince someone who is telling us to convince them of something they apparently already believe?
It gets irritating when people say "Americans should give up this and that and this and that....."...that we should live how they think we should live. Fuck you. Blow me. And you know what? If you're going to tell us we need to make our lives suck so you can be less miserable, or at least less jealous, then don't compain when we decide to bomb, attack, and roll tanks through cities of nations that didn't harm or pose any threat to us. Because both of those things are retarded, self-defeating, and serve no purpose whatsoever.

Your posts are usually well thought out, logical and thoughtful, but this one
The planet is in problems, you can as a individual or country can choose to be part of the solution or problem . And this doesn't pertain to non-Americans because??????
The developing world is following your lead(when they're not protesting us and burning effigies of our presidents), like it or not. Dont piss and moan about Chinese or Indias emissions while you do nothing to curb your own.
Who the developing world follows is thier own choice. It's thier planet, too. They need to take responsibility for thier own shit, not whine and moan about the U.S. I never uttered a single word about Chinese or India's emmissions. Not one. Quote me if I did. Everyone needs to put on thier big-boy and big-girl pants and make the choices they think are best instead of waiting for a fading, dying, hegemonic superpower to do it at thier own expense. Again, I didn't piss and moan about anyone else's emissions while doing nothing to curb my own. Because I think China, India, and everyone else should do as they see fit. I should be permitted to do the same. Everyone rants and rails when they feel like someone is telling them how to live, yet are so quick to say "oh, you should live green". Blow me. I'll live the way I want to, kiss my ass if you don't like it. I've never, and will never, chide China or India or any other nation on how it handles it's own business.
Your analogy of cell phone satillites to the billions of green house gases emitted by cars/trucks is just juvernille and you know it.
Is it? Because last I checked, China's the second largest consumer of oil, and its consumption is the fastest growing. Your peeps are going to be public enemy #1 soon...are you going to advocate obliterating your nation's economy by trading all your cars to go back to the bicycles that were so prevalent in China just 25 years ago? I doubt it. And since China's going to be the....ahem..."leader" in oil consumption, maybe this is a great opportunity for China to demonstrate green living to the world. pfft.
Your argument on corn production is naive to say the least, and my comment was about OIL , not corn, sorry corn is not a major emitter of green house gases. Farmers will grow you food if you need it, and the world needs it.
Chinagirl....(facepalm). Corn is probably the single most important commodity in the world. There are very few products that do not have some derivative of corn in them. My point wasn't just about corn, kiddo. My point was, do you understand how much oil goes into planting, harvesting, and transporting corn to where it needs to go? If the agricultural industry cannot use oil, they cannot use the tractors and combines that allow massive farms to be farmed. Mega-farms couldn't exist. Corn production would drop immensly. And everything that corn is used to produce, from plastics, chemicals, food products, etc. (and seriously, if anyone does research on just how many things have corn-byproducts in them, it'll blow your mind) would sky rocket in price.
Your final comments about not lowering your "standard of living" in a materialistic sense and it being so wrong to do so in regard to enviromental protection is scary.
Those comments apply to people to say I should sacrifice and force myself into a lower standard of living....but nothing about themselves having to do so. If someone who is living a green life says I should do it, I would simply agree to disagree, but I would have no grounds to call them idiots, because they're actually practicing what they're preaching. People who preach but wont practice themselves are full of shit.
But more scary was this ....."...that we should live how they think we should live. Fuck you. Blow me. And you know what? If you're going to tell us we need to make our lives suck so you can be less miserable, or at least less jealous, then don't compain when we decide to bomb, attack, and roll tanks through cities of nations that didn't harm or pose any threat to us. "
You left out the part where I said "Because both of those things are retarded, self-defeating, and serve no purpose whatsoever." Do NOT try to edit my posts to make it look I'm saying something I'm not.
Here's the thing Chinagirl....Carbon dioxide is a green house gas. If we're talking about getting rid of green house gases, there are currently 7 billion little carbon dioxide producers running around the earth today, and that number is growing. What do you propose we do about these little greenhouse gas engines called "people"?
Oh, and while we're on the topic of greenhouse gases, ever hear of the Siberian permafrost? Chinagirl, the human race is screwed whether we all drive H2 Hummers everyday or ride bicycles for the rest of our lives. Green living will make ZERO difference in global warming. Even with no carbon foot-print, the human race will still have to contend with ELE-level warming....because of the Siberian permafrost.
Dunno what it is? (Now don't click on the link, learn about it, and then post "Yeah! I knew what it was!"....because if you did know what it was, you'd know that no amount of "change" in our eco-habits would save us and we wouldn't be having this discussion)
There are 1.5 TRILLION TONS of methane (a greenhouse gas that is many times more greenhouse-y than CO2) frozen in the ground in Siberia. Siberia is thawing. Methane is seeping into the atmosphere, causing warming. I'm not making an argument, here, really. Just letting you know that this permafrost in Russia is emitting methane, a greenhouse gas far more dangerous than both CO's, and the more it emits, the warmer it gets, and the warmer it gets, the more it emits. Its' a cycle. And at 1.5 trillion tons, there's enough there to change the game.

(but, try to avoid food with corn and corn derivatives, 'cuz factory farmed corn (and the circumstances surrounding it's production) really IS evil and bad for us )

Because both of those things are retarded, self-defeating, and serve no purpose whatsoever."
Um...invading nations without provocation as well as telling other cultures how to live without walking the walk are both retarded.
