One would think that if you are going to post a viewpoint in here that it goes without saying that you are going to get pro, con and undecided responses for it. That is after all what a forum is all about...discussion of viewpoints. If you cannot accept that, then perhaps not posting is the best bet.
I don't see why some folks get so bent out shape over the issues in here or why they cannot accept negative opinions on their post.
One issue that arose was that the "slammer" was taken aback because of the use of their ID being used in the responses I gave. Be it myself or the many other responders out there, we typically do use the ID of a responder to further add our opinion to what they have posted. It just makes more sense doing it this way as it directs our commentary to the specific idea rather than have to retype the whole statement. In a lot of the posts, the responses vary from right on topic, to a slight drift from the topic to some responders going off on tangents not even related to the original posting. Directing directly to a responder makes this much more clear and to the point without a lot of extra unnecessary typing.
Assuming direction to a specific user ID is anything but this is pretty over the top.
There also seemed to be at issue that because someone responds that is on your ignore list that this is taboo also. Whether you are on a list or not does not stop access to a posting. Again, what is the point of engaging a topic if you are not going to like all the answers.
Then there was accusations of possible "harassment" going on which really was nothing much more than just careless bantering caught up in the heat of the moment.
One thing I always find amusing is how the type written word can mean so many different things to so many people...and it can truthfully. It is not like a face to face conversation or even an oral discussion. In these cases, there is vocal tone changes, elevations in volume, body language, facial contortions and a host of other things that can accurately forward and reinforce the point being made. Not so with merely typed words. All that is gone and only the words are there subject to the readers interpretation. Too often they are grossly mistaken for something they are not. So here again, we have to remember this is a discussion forum and lets not get too hung up on what some of our responders mention.
Lastly, for those that enjoy numbers, lets not assume that a count of responses made is a clear indicator of anything...because it is not. The very lay out of this forum makes those numbers mean virtually nothing, since those of us without VIP status are limited to only half what this site has to offer. That number in itself may or may not be accurate but point taken I am sure.
So hey folks, lets lighten up a bit and enjoy the conversations for what they really are...conversation...nothing more...nothing less.
