Mitt Romney (Rep. Presidential candidate) gave a speech today regarding his religion, he's a Mormon - how come it's even an issue, and why does he have to be apologetic and explain himself?

It's basis also comes from our history of the separation of church and state which was a result of the persecution that many of our ancestors experienced in the past and led them to flee their native countries, (economic issues also played a role), and emigrate to he US.
I personally don't care what someones religious affiliation is as long as it does not impose any judgments on me. Some people see this as a possible risk to their personal beliefs.
I will quit rambling now....

A firewall that is very misunderstood, separation of Church and State really should just stop any taxes taken from going to any religious organization, not stopping the ten commandments from being in front of a court house after all, those ten commandments are the adaptation of laws that keep a society a society.
Constitutionalist that argue the "separation of Church and State" like that completely misunderstand their own belief.
