My understanding (from my GF who's been to nude beaches in Europe and in the US) is that the mentality is little different here in the states then it is in Europe.
She said the beaches here felt like they were full of mostly Horny men just trying to get a free show.
Either way, good on you for doing what you pleased at the beach where most women would not.
On a side note, I didn't know there were any clothing optional beaches in the PNW. That is good to know. Lol.

Definitely get a lot of gawking men, but I don't mind.

I recommend everyone go nude socially. Your best bet for 1st timers who are nervous would be a group associated with the American Association of Nude Recreation. They promote family style nudism and do background checks on attendees to insure there are no sex offenders allowed into the area.
I like to say going nude around others for the 1st time is more like popping your neck when it's sore than ripping a band-aid off, like some think it may be. When you pop your neck you're suffering before and you THINK that initial cracking sound is going to hurt. In reality it is an immediate sense of relief and the pleasant feeling makes you forget the prior discomfort immediately. In other words, you'll likely be highly nervous as you approach the nude area for the 1st time and be very worried that as soon as you remove your clothes it will be uncomfortable. But, as soon as you are FREE from that disguise, you'll feel so much better and laugh at they way you thought it would be such a big deal.
To answer a previous poster: No, men do not walk around hard at social nudist events. Nudism is not sexual. Imagine that everyone is nude when they shower and that's not a sexual event. The idea that nude equals sex is something those outside of nudism believe and doesn't match reality. In the extremely rare event an erection occurs it is etiquette to cover with the towel you keep on hand to sit on or go in the water until it subsides.
