Lets say on a scale of 1-10, 5 being average, who is average? Let's use celebs because everyone knows celebs!
I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder but, most people will come to the conclusion here...
In the world of celebs...Liz Hurley is hot IMO, but I'll be damn If I could name an average looking female.

By definition average gals are practically invisible, which is probably why you have a hard time picking them out. Average gals are the ones that most guys never look at twice. And I would bet that even "less than average' women get more looks simply because they stand out, not in a good way of course...

Sorry if this angers anyone, but I think a ton of women are beautiful in their own way, but she just doesn't do it for me at all.

I would consider Demi Moore HOT and Jennifer Garner as HOT but someone like Drew Barrymore as just above average.
Understanding this is just my opinion.

I would agree with the SJP as average reference. I've been told that i have impossible standards regarding attractiveness (for men and women). To me, average means nothing special, not UGLY but perhaps unattractive (in the sense that they are not that attractive, you know?) To me, hot means spectacular, rare, and unusual. Very few people meet this standard to me. Hot doesn't just mean "attractive" or "pretty" to me.

Lots of women are sexy either because they have a great body or just certain body parts. For me to consider a woman hot, she has to be physically attractive in my eyes and she has to be intelligent.
A woman can be the sexiest thing I've ever seen, but if she's stupid, I'm not interested. I'd rather have an average looking intelligent woman, than a great looking moron.
I don't see celebrities as any better looking than anyone else. Most have on a ton of make-up or their photos have been air brushed to the max. Most celebrities are average looking, they just have a team of people to make them look sexy.

I agree. Some of these folks have also had surgery. Nothing wrong with that, but let's be real.
I consider most people to have something attractive about them. BUT on the other hand real hotness, I think is hard to find.
For example the most beautiful people I think I've seen was when I was in Tahiti. These people were hot, men and women. I'm talking great hair, flawless skin, women were curvy, men were hunky, lots of woman with very little make-up, no fake nails. People in general were walking around very casual, so there's no smoke and mirrors with the shoes, wonder bras, and random bling.
I'm probably an odd ball but if you need to accessorize or groom excessively, and wear tons of make-up etc, then you ain't hot.

I think average (5-6) would be someone like Drew Barrymore (mentioned earlier).
Nothing wrong with her, just not particularly compelling IMO. Average isn't all that bad though; plenty of regular Joe's and Jane's are seen as attractive to a decent amount of people.
7 means solid to me. Take Hilary Duff or Ashley Tisdale for example...
Both good looking, but at the end of the day, there's plenty of better looking girls out there. IMO, 7's get the most varying opinions. Some people would say that Duff/Tisdale are closer to 9's while other people might barely have them as 5's
To me, 8's are basically dime a dozen hot chicks. Let's use Hayden Panettiere as an example.
Very nice, but let's be honest here, you probably see 20 girls that are just as good-looking throughout the course of a day. Think back to high school, you had those rare ones that stood out above the rest. Then you had a fairly large group of girls who were hot, but didn't neccessarily stand out from the others (like a good NBA shooting guard, if you get what I'm saying). Those are the 8's.
9-10 would be someone like Scarlett Johansson
Hot, but not cookie-cutter hot. Someone who has that "it" factor that separates themselves from other great-looking women.
I hate to come of as being shallow here (I actually do like most of the women I listed), I just think that's how the general population views attractiveness.

I pointed this out to my wife (actually I said she's ugly), and she said that's part of the appeal of the show. Women can indentify with them because there not the most beautiful women in the world. Then you get shows like "Desperate Housewives". If I lived in that neighboorhood I'd have a permanent hardon

( im gonna use GG3000's people)
someone like Scarlett Johansson is sexy but not pretty. her lips are so sexy and they make her stand out but shes really not that pretty to me. Hilary Duff is beautiful but nothing really stands out about her, shes just normal beautiful. i would rate Johansson above Duff but only because Johansson stands out more than Duff does.
so i guess really it depends on how you define beauty. maybe you can only find the 9's and 10's because you see beauty as meaning perfection so anyone who doesnt have close to perfect features just kinda blend in with the rest of the crowd. i would say thats normal though im the same way with redheads. they are either a hot redhead or an ugly redhead, there is no inbetween for me

Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, Charlize theron, jennifer love hewitt, Carmen electra are all hot enough to make you want to lick thier ass before introducing yourself to them.
