State of the American male

What I'm curious about is:
Is the same thing prevalent where you live?
Do you find this look attractive? (My wife admits some men look good w/ buzzcuts, but most look like dorks)
I have not watched television in over seven years, simply does not interested me in the least, but it puts me at a disadvantage here. Is this the male image that the media is selling today? Does that explain why they nearly
all look the same?
I see that women still work to look good. Nothing seems to have changed
there. Does it bother you that most men in bars today look like they just
rolled out of bed with a hangover? Especially when you have skin treatments,
hairstyles, cosmetics, defoliating, hair removal, ad infinitum and the men you
forced to choose from are all slobs that don't have to do anything to look
good? Is this fair?
I'm no James Bond, but at least I style my hair, tuck my shirt in, shave,
wear cologne, cowboy boots, etc. and I do that just for my wife and my own
self esteem. Granted, I'm a musician, so I'm going to be different. Every time
I play, I see these sloppy guys and attractive girls going round and round
while we play. Makes no sense to me. Maybe I need to find a time machine
and take my ass back to 1982. At least there was some sort of style then,
big hair is better than none. When you go in the army or prison, the first
thing they do is shave your head to take away your personal identity.
Thoughts, opinions, etc?

I don't differentiate people by color, but I see a lot of people in the bars I play in. You must admit this is an ironic reversal of stereotypes. Once in awhile one of these guys buys me a drink, says he likes my playing. I tend
to appreciate these guys more than the rest, don't know why. Maybe I feel
I have more in common with them.

Might I ask what general area? Saratoga is actually a very hip town. Girls
there are fabulous. I've been out of NYC for 7 years and grew up in Los

Ah, maybe it *is* a regional thing then?

Well, I live in Varmint, so anything in Saratoga is better than here. (Moved here
six years ago from NYC.) Every man here looks like a fat Larry the Cable GUY.
The women are generally obese here by the time they are 19. I HAVE to go to
Saratoga, only place I feel comfortable anymore The music scene is actually
what draws me though.
