But anyway, if something about her strikes you as worth complimenting, go ahead and compliment it. If you are taken with the color of her dress or something, come right out and say it.
I happen to think that compliments should be on neutral things, like a dress, or jewelry, or something that doesn't reflect on her actual appearance. Does that sound odd? The kind of thing I'm thinking is like, don't comment on her makup.

I don't mean prepared statements, I'm just a bit nervous about what things about myself I should touch on and what I should not. I mean, I lift weights, kickbox, play pool, poker, football, have played just about every sport, I like woodworking...but I don't know what of the bunch is a good starter and what's not.
Also, what things do girls like to talk about? I mean everybody asks about music and movies...I tend to joke a lot, how clean do jokes have to be on a first date?
