I would prefer my partner/lover to surprise me with flowers or a gift, or a display of affection on a normal day rather than on Feb 14th because shops say he should. I think you should love your partner every day and not just show them with a tacky card and over priced bunch of flowers etc on valentines day.
Now don't get me wrong, i'm an incurable romantic, I love romance and hearts and flowers, I just hate being dictated to as to when it should be shown or given.
I was out for lunch yesterday and noticed the restaraunt owner placing his valentines special boards up. I went for a read and it said
"join us for dinner on monday evening, we won't be participating in valentines price hiking or special menu setting. our customers come here to enjoy the menu we do have regularly and as such, we wont be changing it for one evening in the name of love!" I brought a leaflet home with me to keep as thats such a refreshing attitude!
I hate that everywhere hikes up the prices of flowers and chocs etc, hate that people sit waiting for their gift from their lover, hate that you feel as though you should take part or be labelled a grump etc.
Valentines day wasn't for established couples, it was so you could anonymously send the object of your affections a note telling them they had a secret admirer.
Anyway, thats my vent towards it over....
so how about you,
would you feel gutted if your partner didn't recognise you on valentines with a card, gift etc?
Do you feel that its a necessary evil?
Do you feel that you love it and the ritual that comes with it?
