Fundamentalists are dangerous and obnoxious. Don't become one. (that appeal goes equally to all)

I'm not sure what you mean by 'respect'. I don't respect any set-up that eliminates, violently or otherwise, choice of faith, action and plural institutions. But I do feel we meddle at our eventual peril in other countries internal affairs. That's not to say there is nothing to be done. Revulsion could be expressed through trade and cultural embargoes for example.
I believe Mr Bhatti was even more courageous than you state: last night we watched him in a tape recorded four months ago, to be passed to the BBC in the event of his death, talking about his commitment to liberal values and stating his determination not to be intimidated. If i understand correctly he had also supported the prominent case of a woman who has been condemned to death by the blasphemy laws. He had requested an armoured saloon car and bodyguards; somehow, mysteriously, these simple precautions failed to be provided by his government. I guess the rot goes very deep in parts of that particular society.
