Jess' Drawing Corner Requesting and chatting about drawings
Posted Fri Apr 08, 2011 03:29 PM
As some of you may know I get the odd request in live chat to do drawings for people and I really enjoy making these for people, I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread so that anyone that wants to request a drawing from me or talk about drawings they've done/seen we can enjoy them together. =)
Personally i use the program Inkscape is its 100% free and fairly easy to use, I'm not a proffesional and use my mouse instead of a fancy graphics tablet (A device allowing you to essentially draw with a pen onto your pc).
Some of the drawings I've made include Badboy03's Chocobo drawing - for some odd reason its destroyed the pink text however that only says my name.
Thanks for reading

I used to draw and read but now the internet has taken over my life.
I admire you, you still have time to get creative.
I should probably return to drawing again
Sometimes i doodle in class, idk if that counts.
This is a picture of one of my doodles on a notebook page

I wish my pen and paper drawing skills were as good as my digital drawing skills, i've always envied sketch artists and love drawings done only in pencil.

As you can (hopefully) see in the image below i start out by drawing a framework for my drawing, this covers the outline, distinctive parts (e.g. an arm or a trigger), details (e.g. the cutouts at the top of the gun), highlights and shadows. While drawing this sketch i personally like to use different colour lines so that i can see where differnt shapes overlap and they stand out as each individual part ive drawn.
Now i move onto the colouring stage and depending on the drawing i colour in 2 different ways: For some drawings i colour the whole thing in with the basic colour ready to be adjusted later, for other drawings i focus on one section (A good example is the blade of a sword) colour that in finding the exact right colours and then moving onto the next part (i.e the handle).
Then i begin adding in certain filters and effects to create shadows/highlights/depth to the image (The chocobo is a notable exception in that it has no filters on it at all - to make it feel more 'cartoony'). This stage is the most time consuming stage as shapes often need adjusting to make sure the filter is in the right place/affecting the right area.
Finally i do a small fine adjustment (If you've been in the live chat when I've requested opinions this is the image your seeing) to ensure i havent missed any major faults while colouring in.
That is roughly how i draw my drawings which usually take somewhere between 30mins to an hour depending on the complexity.

Porsche Boxster for Rosc - Sketch phase (with grey background to hopefully make it easier to see various lines)
The quality isnt too bad - however you cant see much of the wheels which were a royal pain in the ass to do and may be subject to change if colouring doesnt "fix" them.

I will be posting more drawings as they come, as they are more of a hobby than anything else i dont spend as much time drawing as i would like to, feel free to request something I'm running low on things to draw and hit a bit of a low drawing wise after Rosc's porsche messing up and spending nealy 3 hours drawing Solid Snake only to realise i cant draw people - which is a shame because I'd love to draw Snake, Gordan freeman and various other characters - maybe a bit of masterchief thrown in there somewhere.
