Small, to me means stuff that they will like (like under $20),,,,,like a gift certificate, a flower, or something that they use/like. Something they wouldn't actually buy for themselves. I want to surprise her with a small something that shows her that I am thinking about her.

Or you can just call her out of the blue and tell her you were thinking about her. I would like that type of thing more than most gifts.

i agree ya dont even hafta buy somethin to let her know ya thinkin bout her, a text, a phone message etc. one of my exes would leave notes on my car tucked undah the wipers, and afta the first time (when i thought it wuz a ticket and kinda wuz pissed lol), it really warmed my heart.

The box of chocolates is an overrated gift if you buy it pre-packaged, but when it's bought in a specialty shop is a supreme gift. Always pick dark chocolate 60% or more.
In fact, anything you buy that has been made at the artisanate level is good as a gift.
I'm not that familiar with Middlesex County, but I'm sure there must be little communities like St. Jacobs in the Region of Waterloo, where they have a farmer's market with lots of different handicraft vendors. Those are always good places to buy little things that are unique.
